Introduction
How do Disney films contribute to the construction of society's values and norms about gender roles? This is a question that I have been trying to find out this quarter. Through this quarter's study, I think I have come up with some ideas. This page will
present you an analysis of my quarter-long process for creating an analysis essay that answers the above course question and a reflection of my progress toward course objectives.
Section 1: Planning and Exploratory Writing
The picture on the right is my exploratory writing for Disney's superheroes films. It is the most helpful writing to my final essay because I chose to analyze the Avenger 4: Endgame in my final essay. Through completing this exploratory writing I think I fulfill "develop effective habits for your own writing process" from course objectives.
The picture on the left is my annotation of the article With Rouge One: Star Wars Goes Full Feminist. In this article, the author proposed a very important point that the female characters in Star Wars are both the product and reflection of their times. This idea has a crucial influence in developing my thesis for the final essay.
Section 2: Peer Review
The picture on the right is a screenshot of the peer review of the assignment "write the introductory paragraphs". I was suggested to add more information and explanation to the reason why choosing Disney films. This is a really helpful advice to me because it points out something that I didn't notice before.
This is the best advice I gave in this course so far. By giving a rating from 1 to 10 it clearly shows the effectiveness of each segment. I think this is the best advice because I not only give a rating but also provide some revising suggestions.
Section 3: Self Review
I think the title is one of the most important part of the essay. A good title triggers readers interest to read the article. In my essay, the original title seems too plain and lack accuracy. I am still trying to come up with a more eye-catching title.
The picture on the left shows the top three priorities that I should consider when revising my essay. It is always good to revise the essay with some emphasis. The three priorities of revising essay improves my efficiency of revising the essay.
Section 4: Revision
The first picture on the right shows Dr. Haas' revision suggestion on my introductory paragraphs. The second and third pictures are the title before and after revision. However, I think the new title is not strong enough. I am still trying to come up with a better title.
